Tom Slatter is a composer, singer and songwriter who composes, records, plays and teaches in London, England. He released his second solo album IronBark in July 2011.
Having performed in various bands, including the post-apocalyptic quasi-acoustic indie folk duo, Comrade Robot, Tom decided to set out as a solo artist in late 2009.
He released Spinning the Compass in January 2010. The album was a mixture of acoustic indie with a steampunk theme and a hint of prog rock experimentation. The songs explored themes of love, flying machines, nightmares involving cable cars and steam engine related body horror.
It recieved positive reviews and attention from various steampunk bloggers, and after a series of off and online gigs and a video for the first albums title track, Tom began work on his more ambitious second solo album IronBark.
Toms prog rock influences are even more pronounced on Ironbark. The title track is a 17 minute indie prog-rock epic. It is proceeded by the 5 part connected narrative sequence The Misers Will. The tracks Steamlife and The Beast of the Air round off an album that combines elements of prog and acoustic indie rock with steampunk aesthetics.
